Launch of the build

On Wednesday 11th June 2025 the Minister of Health The Hon Ryan Park announced that construction will start on the build of the three additional dedicated palliative care bedrooms, lounge/dining & courtyard area at Orange Hospital.

There was a celebration, & cake! to mark this big milestone in achieving our goal of five (5) dedicated palliative care beds at the hospital. OP4P has come a long way since our formation as a group in 2015 where there were no dedicated palliative care beds at the newly built hospital.

We have been involved in the planning and design of these additional beds, part of the World Class End of Life Care program from the Ministry of Health.

With the expansion of the palliative care space and services it will mean additional staff, including doctors, nurses, and Allied Health. Hopefully - all going well - it could be open by Christmas. See the Minister’s press release: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/news/Pages/20250611_00.aspx

OP4P will now be involved in reaching out to our local community to value-add to the new and existing palliative care areas. Whilst the new build of the additional 3 rooms is fully funded by the World Class project, OP4P is very keen to provide extra comforts and amenities for patients and their families such as cuddle beds, extra artwork, and locally made quilts.

Stay tuned for more information on the launch for our fundraising campaign!
